Theory of
Continental Drift
|
The accepted theory about the
formation of the Himalayas started to take shape in
the year 1912 when German meteorologist Alfred Wegener
|
|
developed his Theory of Continental
Drift. According to Wegener, the earth was composed of
several giant plates called tectonic plates. On these
plates lie the continents and the oceans of the earth.
The continents were said to have formed a single mass
at one point in time. From this single mass, today's
continents have "drifted" apart from |
 |
|
each other over a period of millions of years.

Indian
Subcontinent
|
The Indus Valley Civilization
(mature period 2600–1900 BCE), was an |
|
ancient civilizationthat flourished
in the Indus River basin. Primarily centered along the
Indus river, the civilization encompassed most of
Pakistan, including its Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan
provinces, and extending into modern day Indian states
of Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. |

Australoid
People
|
The Australoid race is a broad racial classification. The
concept originated with a typological method of racial
classification. They were described as having dark skin
with wavy hair, in the case of Aboriginal Australians, or
hair ranging from straight to kinky in the case of
Melanesian and Negrito groups. According to this model of
classification, Australoid peoples ranged throughout
Australia, New Guinea, and Melanesia, as well as parts of
the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Southern India, Sri
Lanka and the Southern Middle East.
Huxley's original model included populations in India.
Some scholars still use the term Australoid denote the
small populations, mainly in south India and Sri Lanka,
usually associated with Ahdi-Dravidian or Veddas.

Dravidian
People
|
Dravidian people also Dravidians refers to the peoples
that natively speak languages belonging to the Dravidian
language family. Populations of speakers are found mostly
in southern India. Other Dravidian peoples are found in
parts of central India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan,
Afghanistan and Iran. Scholars widely hold that the
Dravidian peoples were the originators of the Indus Valley
Civilization. Recent genetic studies revealed that these
people were indeed of Indian subcontinent origin.
